Seed Awards 2015 - Call For Applications

Is your enterprise in a start-up phase and does it integrate social and environmental benefits, solving pressing local issues? Is it women-led? Do you need support to help to establish and grow your enterprise? If these questions apply to you, you will be pleased to hear that SEED has opened the Call for Applications for the 2015 SEED Awards.

SEED welcomes innovative ideas from any enterprise in a developing country or country in transition, which is working in partnership with others to generate economic, environmental and social benefits. SEED's independent international jury of experts selects Award Winners, those enterprises that have the greatest promise of making substantial improvements in poverty eradication and environmental sustainability while contributing to a greener economy.

This year SEED will make available up to 31 SEED Awards, for which SEED has received support from the European Union, the Government of Flanders, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), and the international law firm Hogan Lovells. Additional support is provided by the Government of the Netherlands and other SEED Partners. As in previous years, there will be several categories of SEED Awards.

Proposals have to fulfill all the following eligibility criteria - if applying for the Gender Equality Award, it also has to be run or owned by a woman or women and prioritize gender equality and/or women's empowerment as a core objective:

  • Demonstrate entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Deliver economic, social and environmental benefits
  • Intention and potential to become financially sustainable
  • A partnership between different stakeholder groups
  • Locally driven or locally led
  • Potential for scale up or significant replication
  • In the early stages of implementation
  • In a country with a developing or emerging economy
