Direct applications from prospective fellows are not accepted. UNU-GEST welcomes expressions of interest all year round. However, the final deadline for organisational nominations for the 2016 academic year is 30 June 2015. Recruitment timeline may vary from one country to the next.

The selection process consists of several steps:

1.  Open call for nominations is issued by UNU-GEST 1 March each year. UNU-GEST also collaborates with partner organizations and invites nomination from selected agencies.

2.  Deadline for nominations from organisations/institutes is 30 June. Nomination forms are available at UNU-GEST website.

3.  UNU-GEST screens applications in collaboration with nominating agencies.

4.  Nominees submit an application. Each candidate nominated is requested to fill out an application form for the diploma programme and submit other required documentation. Those fulfilling programme requirements will be invited to an interview with UNU-GEST staff.

5. Interviews with prospective fellows. Candidates who fulfil requirements are interviewed by UNU-GEST staff. In this interview, the candidates need to be able to:

b) discuss and identify gender equality issues in their field of work;
c) show in-depth understanding of their professional work and how it relates to gender equality;
d) outline how they think the UNU-GEST diploma programmewill increase their capacities in their field of work in the future and how it will benefit their institute/organisation.

6. Proposed fellows are offered placement by June/July

7. Diploma programme starts in early January

 Financing of candidates and programme cost

The funding of the diploma programme is based on scholarships that are either 1) funded directly by the UNU-GEST programme or 2) by funding agencies, such as development agencies and other development partners, embassies and governments.

The scholarships are all-inclusive and cover all travel costs for fellows, housing on campus, cloths allowance and per-diem during the five moth period, in addition to educational facilities, learning material and lessons.

Gender equality is an issue cutting across all sectors and funding agencies have in the past benefitted from the programme as they have either used the scholarship to enhance gender-related work within their own projects or programmes, or opted for supporting experts and leaders from civil society or government. Each year the student body consists of experts from a variety of fields, stimulating a mutual learning environment where students can share different viewpoints and experiences.

Funding agencies interested in learning more about opportunities related to the UNU-GEST diploma programme are invited to contact for further details.
