Who Cares? Tackling Barriers to Growth and Productivity in an Aging World

Gender and Development Seminar Series

Aging countries around the world are facing the prospect of a shrinking labor force. Improving the economic participation and productivity of women in these countries may be an important mitigating channel, but, this is challenging in the face of increasing demand for informal care-a responsibility that rests mainly with women. Join us for a discussion on recent findings on informal care and it impacts women's economic participation in two regions: Europe and Central Asia and East Asia and the Pacific. Speakers will discuss policy implications and the trade-offs and risks caregivers face, as well as the importance of these concerns in other regions.
