The CGIAR Research Programme on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and Future Earth, the global research platform for environmental change research, will host a Seminar and High-Level Panel on “Gender, Climate Change and Agriculture” in Paris on 19 March 2015 from 09:00 – 15:00.
The Panel is linked to the series of international events leading to the Paris Conference of Parties (COP21) of the climate convention (UNFCCC), and is taking place a day after the close of the Conference on Climate-Smart Agriculture in Montpellier. Ideas emerging from the Panel will be fed into two processes of the UNFCCC - the discussions on agriculture under the technical body (SBSTA) and the workshop proposed for the Lima work programme on gender.
At the Seminar on the morning of 19 March, scientists and practitioners will share new knowledge on gender and climate change in agriculture. A short summary of the morning session will be presented immediately prior to the main Panel discussion after lunch. The objective for the Panel is to share ideas about closing the gender gap in farming under climate change, and to convene thinkers and doers in a forum to inspire renewed action.
The format of the event will include several research presentations in the morning and a high-level panel discussion in the afternoon.
