The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) is an autonomous intergovernmental body, mandated to develop and support the management of fisheries in the Southeast Asian region by rational utilization of the region’s aquatic resources to provide food security to the people through a balanced approach to fisheries and habitat management. The mandate of the organization covers both marine and inland fisheries.

SEAFDEC, with support from the SEAFDEC-Sweden Collaborative Program, is strengthening efforts to address the importance of integrating and coordinating fisheries management and habitat management and to improve management of fishing capacity to reduce over-capacity, destructive and illegal fishing. Priority sub-regions include Gulf of Thailand, Andaman Sea, Mekong River Region and Sulu-Sulawesi Seas and SEAFDEC supports regional cooperation through the implementation of sub-regional (and bilateral) agreements on fisheries and environmental management.

SEAFDEC-Sweden project is seeking a Gender and Social Development Specialist with a knowledge and passion for gender equality, human rights and social development. As a Gender and Social Development Specialist, you shall have deeper understanding of gender, human rights and social development aspects helping SEAFDEC-Sweden project, its implementing partners and project staff on how to promote gender equality, human rights and social development through internal practices, conducting gender analysis throughout the project cycle, advising on gender aspects human rights and social development to be addressed within different segments of fisheries and the fishing industry including fair working conditions with an aim to ensuring safe, equal and dignified participation and empowerment of all gender groups in project cycle for attainment of gender equitable outcomes.

We are seeking for energetic and high caliber candidate to work with us as Gender and Social Development Specialist, attached to the SEAFDEC Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand. This will be a
fixed-term, full-time one-year contract with possibility of extension.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Advice and support to SEAFDEC and SEAFDEC-Sweden Project management on gender equality and equity, human rights and social development including increased awareness and
promotion of gender integration

• Conduct gender related workplan, activities and budget implication for gender mainstreaming in the project

• Assist with the interpretation of gender related data and ensure that sex- and genderdisaggregated data are extracted, processed and analyzed, and included in the reports and other documents

• Closely work with the project team to ensure gender integration in the key areas of the project activities

• Advice policy and facilitation of knowledge-building on gender equality and equity, gender integration, human rights and social development, tools and related topics as required

• Be a mentor to SEAFDEC’s Gender Focal Persons to build up and strengthen capacity for gender sensitivity as a profession and for SEAFDEC’s long term capacity

• Assist and participating at gender and human rights related events of value to the work of SEAFDEC and SEAFDEC-Sweden Project

• Review project materials especially field survey instruments for data collection to ensure sexand gender-disaggregated data and information are collected

• Assist with data collection activities, such as conducting interviews, leading focus group discussions or conducting surveys at field

• Draft and/or review and provide feedback on draft copies of the gender analysis report

• Actively support the design of monitoring and evaluation tools for gender indicators and for monitoring

• Guide the collection of monitoring and evaluation data

• Assist in the preparation and review of reports to donor, provide gender data and language

where needed, to capture gender integration efforts of projects
